Stairs Series
We meet at different locations around the Bay Area at 9 AM on Saturdays to walk/run/sprint up and down stairs! We do a warm up, cool down, and mix in body weight exercises in between flights.

Cleveland Cascade in Oakland: this is the ideal location for a beginner in our stairs group. Lovely views, fairly short distance to the top, but still a challenge. This is where our stair group was born! As a bonus, Oakland has a farmer's market on Grand Avenue that provides fresh produce, delicious smoothies and coffee, and lots of great food. The 16th Avenue tiled steps in San Francisco definitely wins in the "most gorgeous stairs" category. There are 5 sets of steps in the neighborhood that we move between; two are tiled in an amazing mosaic and surrounded by gardens cared for by volunteers. They really have to be seen to be believed. Please note that this is one of our more strenuous sessions due to the steps being fairly steep. That said, they are still good for walkers and we always see lots of tourists and families visiting the steps. Click the title for directions and other specific location information.

The Berkeley Rose Garden is such a pretty, fun location. The garden itself has a variety of levels and stair lengths to play around in, and is surrounded by gorgeous roses. We also go across the street to some steep bonus stairs, play around in a park, and take a little walk to a hidden waterfall. Click the title for directions and other specific location information.

This set of staircases is located in serene Redwood Park. Up in the Oakland Hills, the park boasts knockout views, shady trees, and plenty of steps to break a sweat over. A uniquely pretty location that has plenty of parking, restrooms and water fountains, as well as a children's park and additional hiking/running trails. Lands End in San Francisco is a group favorite. Absolutely spectacular location, with views of Sutro Baths on one side and the Golden Gate Bridge on the other (unless that famous fog gets in the way). We take a walk out on a sandy path for about a half mile to get to the steps that go down to a rugged beach where we sometimes throw some rocks and logs around for good measure. . The famous Dipsea Steps are our most beautiful (and some say brutal) location. Three sets of gorgeous stairs that wind their way through a residential neighborhood in Mill Valley. This one is challenging and a lot of fun. Click the title for directions and other specific location information.

Morcom Rose Garden is a beautiful park in Oakland off Grand Avenue. As the name suggests, there are plenty of roses, but there are also plenty of stairs. This is a great location for those looking to try out our stairs series. We meet at 700 Jean Street in Oakland, by the sign in front of the garden.
